The Inspiration behind this Piece:

Nothing is more calming for me than time spent around water in any form.  The sounds, open space, constantly changing reflections and colors soothe my soul.

The Great Egret is one of those species whose live revolves continuously around some type of water.  With a diet that consists mainly of fish, but also other aquatic prey such as crayfish, crabs, aquatic insects, shrimp, and snails, with the occasional salamander, snake, lizard, mice or mole thrown in there, it is easy to see why a clean productive water habitat is so critical for this and so many other species.  From vast oceans to the Great Lakes, mighty rivers to tiny trickle creeks and ponds, water is life.  Without water, there can be no life.  Water attracts life to it, so I am always more likely to encounter wildlife near water.

It was the shimmering cast reflections of the reeds and the motionless bird that first attracted me to this scene.  This egret must have felt the same was, as he patiently waited for his breakfast to come by.  This scene again reminded me why this kind of peaceful place is so important to all life, including mine.  I hope it does the same for you!
