The Inspiration behind this Piece:

This project began with a nationwide call for proposals for a new Indiana State Fish and Wildlife Area monument to be located at their soon-to-be-constructed Visitor Center.   I, in turn, proposed the idea to my dear friend, New Mexico sculptor, Sharon Fullingim, and we were proud to have been selected to collaborate on this unique endeavor.  Both Sharon and I had, and continue to have, family ties to Indiana, and this seemed a perfect way to give something back.

This Fish and Wildlife Area is extraordinary, in that it represents a prime example of how man can choose to turn environmental damage around.  Returning what was once converted marginal agricultural land back into prime wetland habitat, the results have been phenomenal.  Each spring, this wetland now hosts thousands of migrating Sandhill Cranes, as well as our still endangered Whooping Cranes, American White Pelicans, Canada Geese, plus a myriad of other waterfowl and shorebird species, providing safe haven to rest and refuel on their northward journeys to nesting grounds. The title, “The Winds of Change”, was so appropriate for the changes taking place in this fertile marshland!

These Sandhill Cranes were awarded the Artists For Conservation Foundation's "Award of Excellence” at the annual International Exhibit of Nature in Art in Vancouver, British Columbia.  Of the 500 worldwide artist members in this prestigious organization, only 5 of these awards are presented each year.  This is a great honor for any wildlife artist.

The Sandhill Cranes are available as a set of 2, or individually.

*Dimensions listed include base, and are approximate (birds are approximately 2/3 lifesize). The Indiana Limestone base, created by sculptor, Sharon Fullingim, was designed specifically for these Sandhill Cranes, and was sculpted in bas relief.  If interested, something similar could be created for you, with the pricing as listed.  (Delivery. pad, and installation not included [see sketch].)  However, if the original base design does not fit your specific site, Sharon would be happy to work with you to design a base for the cranes specific to your site, in either limestone or bronze.  (Base pricing TBD.)

(5% of all sales from this sculpture will be donated to the conservation efforts of the International Crane Foundation.)
