The Inspiration behind this Piece:

“Beaded Lace” was originally a commission for Na Aina Kai Sculpture and Botanical Gardens on Kauai, Hawaii, and became part of their Native American Navajo Village exhibit.  The intricate beaded surface on this lizard was tricky and time consuming, but definitely worth it in the end. When this piece has appeared at art shows around the country, people of all ages have asked if they could touch it!

The Gila Monster, along with its more southern cousin, the Mexican Beaded Lizard, are the only two venomous lizards in the world!

In 2014, I participated in “America's Parks II, Through the Beauty of Art” Show.  When show winners were announced, I was astounded to find not only had all 3 pieces I had submitted for jurying  (competing against an international group of artists) been accepted into the show, but also all three pieces had received awards!  "Beaded Lace" (Reticulated Gila Monster on Cholla Cactus skeleton), and "Desert Denizen" (Western Screech Owl in Saguaro Cactus) had each been awarded the show’s Honorable Mention awards, plus "Eyes On The Prize" (2 life-size Greater Roadrunners with Collared Lizard on Prickly Pear Cactus), took the 2014 Top Sculpture Award!  This prestigious show, honoring North America's parks (City Parks to National/ Provincial Parks throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico), was a great honor and amazing way to start the year!

“Beaded Lace” was also one of two sculptures purchased by the U.S. Port of Entry in Lordsburg, NM, through the New Mexico Art in Public Places program.
